Richmond Residents to Rally for Data Center Moratorium Ahead of Critical City Council Vote
Environmental justice groups support a 45-day pause on data centers as the City considers impacts on electric grid, air and water quality, and local jobs
RICHMOND, CA — Richmond residents, supported by a coalition led by environmental justice organizations, will rally at Richmond City Hall on Tuesday, September 15, calling on the Richmond City Council to pass a moratorium on data center development. If approved, Richmond would become the second city in both Contra Costa County and the wider Bay Area to adopt a moratorium on data center development, following Oakley, as communities across the region grapple with the rapid expansion of the industry.

WHEN: Tuesday, September 15
1 pm: Press conference with Councilmember Claudia Jimenez, Councilmember Sue Wilson, and CBE
5 pm: Dinner and community gathering, hosted by CBE
5:30 pm: Community Rally with speakers
6:00 pm: City council meeting begins

The September 15 vote is the first step in a broader community campaign calling for Richmond to take a precautionary approach to data center development and ultimately establish permanent protections.
