10 Community-led Orgs Launch Statewide Climate Adaptation Efforts
California Climate and Health Equity Hub, Community Data and Action for Regional Resilience
Communities for a Better Environment (CBE) is excited to announce the organizations that make up the California Climate and Health Equity (CACHE) Hub. CACHE is a statewide hub aimed at building technical capacity to improve community-led climate resilience and adaptation. 10 California community-based organizations have accepted our invitation to participate in a two-year cohort anchored by CBE.
The CACHE Hub: Allensworth Progressive Association, Center on Poverty Race and the Environment, East Oakland Collective, Greenhouse South LA, Little Manila Rising, Oakland Community Land Trust, River in Action, Sacred Places Institute for Indigenous Peoples, Save California Salmon, and Two Feather Native American Family Services.
CACHE Hub members shared the following statements:
“Our team is so excited to partner with the other CACHE Hub organizations! We are looking forward to creating long-lasting relationships with partners throughout the state to better understand the needs of their communities and how climate change is impacting their day-to-day lives,” Gabriella Lassos, Indigenous Research and Policy Program Director, Sacred Places Institute for Indigenous Peoples. “Climate adaptation is extremely important as we are all living through colonizer-created climate catastrophes that impact different parts of the state in different ways. We can’t wait to work with the Hub to gain a deeper understanding of how climate needs are similar and differ throughout the state in various communities.”
“We are excited to be part of this coalition to address the impacts of climate change and strengthen climate adaptation and resilience in our rural and disadvantaged communities,” Gustavo Aguirre, Associate Director, Center on Poverty Race and the Environment.
“Little Manila Rising (LMR) was formed to disrupt erasure and preserve the cultural richness of the Little Manila community in South Stockton — a neighborhood shaped by decades of redlining, freeway construction, and public policies that extracted value rather than invested in it,” Bianette Perez, Program Director, Little Manila Rising. “We are excited to join as part of the CACHE hub to be able to further strengthen our climate resilience and emergency preparedness to better serve our communities and to learn from other partners. We believe participating in the Hub Network will further enhance our efforts to build community-centered education, leadership, and growth for the well-being of our community.”
“East Oakland Collective is excited to be part of the CACHE Hub because climate resilience begins with communities that have historically been impacted and on the frontlines of environmental and economic inequities. From combating poor air quality, sea level rise to preparing for extreme heat, wildfire smoke, flooding, and other climate-related emergencies, East Oakland residents have shown strong resiliency, organizing and mutual aid,” Candice Elder, Founder and Executive Director, East Oakland Collective. “The CACHE Hub represents an important opportunity to partner with like-minded organizations across the state of California to build upon our existing neighborhood resilience, expand existing emergency preparedness, and further ensure that East Oakland residents have the resources, information, and support they need to adapt to a changing climate. We are proud to help advance a future where every community is equipped not only to respond to emergencies, but to thrive despite them.”
“South Central L.A. is honored to be part of the launch of the CACHE Hub. Climate change demands immediate, local action, and emergency preparedness is essential to protecting our communities. Our mission is rooted in empowering our local neighborhoods through sustainable workforce development, youth leadership, and environmental justice,” Wendy Salvador, Associate Director, GreenHouse South LA. “Partnering on the CACHE Hub allows us to directly strengthen our local safety net, making climate adaptation tangible, practical, and accessible for the families who need it most. By ensuring our residents and youth have the tools, clean energy resources, and safe spaces they need to thrive during extreme climate events, this hub represents a powerful step forward in building long-term climate justice and community power from the ground up.”
“I’m excited for River in Action to be part of the CACHE Hub and collaborate with CBE and so many incredible organizations advancing climate adaptation across California. Preparing for a changing climate means investing in our communities today, especially our youth,” Erica Maceda, Executive Director, River in Action. “Through environmental education, schoolyard greening, and hands-on experiences with nature, we’re helping youth become informed leaders who can build healthier and more resilient neighborhoods for everyone.”
