CBE Moves California and the Nation Toward Clean Renewable Energy

Communities for a Better Environment is a leading environmental justice organization in California, a state that provides unique opportunities to effect social change. The world looks to California for innovation and that puts CBE in a prime spot to help create and support cutting-edge climate change, energy and other environmental justice policies. Neighborhood organizing enables CBE’s policy priorities to play out at the local, state and national levels.

Our Statewide Campaigns and Programs

  • Civic Engagement

CBE builds community power through grassroots civic and voter engagement led by and for environmental justice communities. Our work is rooted in communities on the frontlines of industrial pollution, government disinvestment and corruption, and voter apathy. These communities are also rich in culture, resilience, and organizing power.

  • Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Enhancement Program (CARE)

Our CARE program uses a collaborative approach to identify adaptation and mitigation solutions, driven by the community. We’re also working to ensure vulnerable communities are prioritized during adaptation planning and in the allocation of resources.

  • Solar on Multi-Family Affordable Housing Program (SOMAH)

The Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing (SOMAH) Program is an investment of up to one billion dollars by 2032 for solar on affordable housing, funded by the State of California. SOMAH makes getting solar panels on multifamily housing easier, helps reduce energy bill burden for tenants, and creates local job opportunities. CBE is a community partner of the SOMAH Program.
