About Us: Vision

Lupe's testimonyThe vision of Communities for a Better Environment is to protect the earth and human life for future generations. We believe that humanity now faces an environmental crisis of global proportions and the earth’s very survival is at stake. This crisis cannot be resolved without a fundamental transformation of our society from one based on profits to one based on people’s needs. Lasting environmental solutions can only be achieved with the participation and leadership of the residents and workers most directly affected by pollution.

The struggle for environmental justice is therefore a part of the movement for social justice in the U.S. and throughout the world. We are opposed to all forms of oppression and want to build a movement that is based on genuine equality and democratic participation.

We are working for a society where production is based on environmental sustainability, and where everyone has the right to breathe clean air and drink clean water in the environment where we live, work, go to school, play, cross all borders and pray regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, culture, ability or income.
